Auspicious dates…I can never understand why Chinese insist for an auspicious date for Wedding. I googled for the word “Auspicious” and the definition is that it is “being of a good omen; successful; favorable; beneficent..”. Next, I googled for the word "Superstitious" and found this meaning: "showing ignorance of the laws of nature and faith in magic or chance".
Personally, I feel that believing in an auspicious date, is akin to being Supertitious. But, can one IGNORE it? Especially in important occasion like “Wedding”? Although it sounds kinda ridiculous that your holy matrimony depends on a set of dates – it is equally difficult to ignore it. Ironic eh? Well, I guess you simply don’t want to have anything to blame if it doesn’t work out. Many of us will believe the unbelievable, simply because, we are afraid of two little words… “What If…”
Every year, without fail on several occasions, myself and my family will visit dear old dad at the temple. And every occasion without fail, we will buy his favourite food, favourite drinks, new shirts, new shoes, etc especially when CNY is around the corner. My dad used to advise me NOT to waste such money, as it is equivalent to burning REAL money! But his depart eight years ago is still deeply felt in our hearts. Missing him dearly, I can’t help but think of “What Ifs…” Again, ironic!
Back to my wedding auspicious date, we have decided to seek the advise from some highly recommended expert – located in Petaling Street – to seek for that “special” date. I heard that he carries a handphone, and we can call him in advance to prepare ourselves with relevant information so that it would save us numerous trip to see him. I already setup my mind to have my wedding in Nov or Dec…I hope this dude would give me the date I wish for……
